Something Beautiful Is
Growing in North Philly
We're creating something magical and we want to connect with families who believe in culturally rooted, and liberation-centered learning. Join our interest list to receive updates, enrollment details, and opportunities to become part of our founding family community.
A Learning Space Rooted in Culture, Community and Care.
Rooted Minds Academy is an early childhood micro-school grounded in culture, community and care, opening soon in the heart of North Philadelphia. We believe in a holistic approach to learning—one that nurtures the mind, body, and spirit of every child. Through play, nature, music, language, and ancestral wisdom, we prepare the next generation of global citizens to dream boldly, lead with purpose, and protect the future. Our program is for children 18 months - 5 years old.
At Rooted Minds, children will:
- Develop independence and a deep sense of curiosity
- Engage with art, music, language, and movement
- Explore nature and build a commitment to environmental stewardship
- Discover the richness of Black and Latinx history, culture, and leadership
- Thrive in a joyful, affirming, and culturally grounded community
- Participate in small learning environments with a 1:6 adult-to-child ratio
Our physical space is currently under construction and scheduled to open by Spring 2026 —complete our interest form to be part of our founding community of families or to learn on how to get involved. Share our flyer and help us spread word.
Our Educational Approach
Our holistic curriculum is build on these six principles.
Montessori-Inspired
We follow Montessori principles that encourage independence, hands-on learning, and child-led discovery. Our approach nurtures resilience, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning.
Black and Brown-Centered Lens
We center the African and Indigenous Diaspora through our books, art, music like African Drum Circles and Bomba, and classroom materials. Children will see themselves reflected in history, culture, and imagination—learning about ancestral joy, leadership, and brilliance.
Language & Arts
We introduce children to multiple languages through music, stories, and play. Creative expression is at the heart of our program—encouraging storytelling, visual art, and movement (including meditation) from the earliest ages.
Environmental Awareness
Our students will enjoy our indoor garden and grow plants, compost food scraps, and take regular field trips to local gardens and outdoor spaces.
Our goals is to teach children to love and protect the Earth, starting with their own hands.
Community Storytelling
We create space for students to learn the stories of their own families and community—building a family altar in the classroom to honor their roots and inviting parents, grandparents, and local leaders to share their lived experiences. Through story circles, ancestral reflection, and guest speakers, children learn that they are part of something larger: a community filled with wisdom, love, and legacy.
Inclusive Welcoming
While our curriculum centers Black, Indigenous, and Latinx stories and traditions, Rooted Minds Academy is a space for all families who believe in liberation, love, and community.
You don’t have to identify as Black or Brown to belong here. We welcome children and families of all races, cultures, identities, and economic backgrounds who are committed to justice, joyful learning, and raising global citizens.

Why We’re Rooted in North Philly
Rooted Minds was born from the real questions Philly families kept asking:
"How do I educate my child in a world where our stories are banned and our schools are underfunded?", "Where can I find a culturally-rooted education that affirms my child while I work full-time?", "Is Montessori education even accessible to us?"
Our founder—a longtime community organizer, educator, and proud North Philly native—created this space for us. As a parent raising a child here, she is committed to building a school that not only uplifts our children, but also honors the rich legacy of the community they come from.
